Mohave County Mine Records Dept Document
Copy of document obtained from the Mohave County (AZ) Annex, Mining Records Department, Kingman, Arizona, Date unknown. Contains chronological information about the Peacock Mining District including Newspaper articles discussing events and yields from the Hackberry mine.
Letter by William B. Ridenour (original owner of mine) Circa 1900. Letter contains description and history of the Hackberry mine with some data as to yield. (The price for Silver was $1.40/toz and $1.08/toz during the time period discussed)
Report on the Sunshine Mine (Old Hackberry) Mohave County, Arizona by W.L. Watts, April 5, 1912. Report contains geology and mine development information. Also a recap of the information provided by William Ridenour regarding value of “Silver taken out” during the 1874-to-1884 time period. Conclusion: “In my opinion, it is a good gamble to re-open the Sunshine (Old Hackberry Mine) by sinking the proposed shaft.” (1912 Silver Average Price per toz = $.64)
Report on Silver King Group, Peacock Mining District, Hackberry, Mohave Count Arizona, by A.L. Johns, Mining Engineer, May 27, 1918. Discusses geology, mine ore body and samplings at various locations. Conclusion: “I have kept in close touch with developments at the Hackberry Mine during the past year. From comparison of conditions I consider the development of the Silver King Group as a highly promising venture, with reasonable possibilities of developing into a mine of similar magnitude to the Hackberry.” (1912 Silver Average Price per toz = $.64)
Middle Hackberry Mines Company, report by T. J. Sparkes, April 14, 1919. Discusses the status of the Hackberry Mining during this time period, including description of the ore and the effectiveness of the processing. Contains plot of the mining claims. Concluding Remarks: The property has unquestioned exceptionally good merit, based upon what has been proven under previous similar conditions. Situated as it is, it is not unfair to state and assume that the situation of the property in “comparative” as to what did occur when the United Eastern at Oatman and Verdi Extension at Jerome were developed. (1919 Silver Average Price per toz = $1.34)

1974 Evaluation by D. B. Robertson
Preliminary Evaluation of the Hackberry Mine Area Mohave County, Arizona for Cyprus Exploration Company by Daniel. B. Robertson, Geologic Consultant, May 1974. Conclusions and Recommendations: “The hackberry prospect in the Peacock Range, Mojave County, Arizona, owned by Mr. Nicholas Hughes, Las Vegas Nevada was examined during March 1974. The exploration targets in the area are vein deposits of silver, lead, zinc and copper ore. Evidence of existing ore bodies is based only on unverified reports, plus production data from the U. S. Bureau of Mines and Mines handbook of 1924. If the data is correct, the ore bodies along the vein could contain about 16oz of silver per ton and several percent of lead and zinc. Geologic mapping and aerial photography evidence indicates that the structures containing mineralization extend for many thousand of feet in a northerly direction. Exploration along the recognized structures by geochemical and V.L.F. geophysical methods is recommended to test the reported ore zones and to test the extensions of the structures.” (1974 Silver Average Price per toz = $4.39)
